A Good Day All Around
We stayed out at our campfire well after midnight last night. The weather was perfect and the fire was a good one. That meant a long sleep in this morning, 7:00 for hubby and 8:00 for me. The state park hosted a pawpaw festival that began at 11:00. There were four music groups, loads of food offerings, some craft vendors and of course, pawpaw samples. Hubby and I enjoyed the brisket. It was unbelievably tender and flavorful. Later, we splurged with a chocolate ice cream cone. We read our Kindles while listening to the bands in an outdoor pavilion. Before we left, we both sampled a pawpaw. They tasted like pear flavored custard. We have those trees in the forest at the back of our property but I was never sure how to tell if they were ripe. The park ranger explained they would fall to the ground when ready to be eaten. The festival ended soon before we had to dress for Mass. This was the first time we’d left the campground other than when hubby went to get boards to repair our pantry shelf that first day. The nearest parish was St. John Neumann. Folks were friendly and the Deacon gave a thoughtful sermon. We topped off the evening with dinner at a nearby restaurant that specialized in homemade country cooking. I’m not sure that this wasn’t one of our best days this year. We had it all: great company, yummy food with no cooking, fun music, worship time and perfect weather. We’ll make a quick stop at the grocery store and head back to camp. I hope your day was wonderful as well. Stay safe. Thanks for visiting and leaving all those stars, hearts and kind comments. “A day out-of-doors, someone I loved to talk with, a good book and some simple food and music - that would be rest.” - Eleanor Roosevelt
