Fraser Canyon

Day 2 of our epic rail journey ; Kamloops to Vancouver. Another early start as we were picked up at 7.. it was odd leaving the cases in our hotel room!
Breakfast was served on board before we’d even left the siding !
The landscape was dramatically different today, following at first the Thompson river looking out for Bighorn sheep then bald eagles and ospreys. We saw a few of the well camouflaged sheep and lots of birds perched down by the river.
Then the track hugged the rock face as we went through the Fraser Canyon. Both rivers were named by the other explorer after their compatriot. The Fraser has no lakes to deposit sediment in so is very murky :)

Our rail car hosts kept us plied with beverages and a fascinating commentary of the landscape and history of the areas we were passing through, whilst below a delightful lunch was being prepared . Later
because of unexpected delays due to heavy freight ahead we also got an evening snack which was most welcome (and would have been also welcome last night as it was very late when we got into Kamloops again due to freight priorities but that’s another conversation)
Finally we left the river and headed across lush arable land with the distant view of Mt Baker , in Washington state USA very clear yet 65mls away as we headed towards the coast and Vancouver city at dusk.
At the terminus all was smooth and were now in our hotel room ahead of a week cruising up the Inside Passage to Alaska starting tomorrow.
