Rocky Mountaineer

Our day started early when we were picked up and taken to the Rocky Mountaineer train. First impression was amazing, very spacious with reclining, heated seats. We were upstairs with a domed glass roof so our view has been super all day especially through the Rockies this morning. We could also go out onto viewing platform open at the sides so we could get some air and see the train take the big bends. As Gold Leaf travellers we ate in the dining room, while the first group went down for breakfast we had tea/coffee and cake. Breakfast was delicious and gave us a chance to chat to other passengers. After breakfast the bar service started, all inclusive, so we celebrated with bubbly, it would have been rude not to. Today’s 370 mile route follows 7 rivers finishing with the Thompson river into Kamloops. We went through numerous tunnels, one 5 miles long. We also went up the spiral tunnels, too hard to explain but fascinating!
Lunch was again delicious and accompanied by local wines.
We arrived in Kamloops in the dark, later than expected due to a slow freight train ahead and were transferred to our hotel where our luggage was waiting, having travelled up ahead of us. All in all a great, if long day, with amazing views in luxury and comfort.
