Kingfisher On The Rocks.
We were having breakfast this morning when I glimpsed the outline of a bird on the rocks. I thought it was a bit kingfisher-esque but thought it unlikely in Crete and by the sea.
As it was our last morning at this place I had my camera to hand as I’d been taking some early morning shots and it hung around long enough for me to zoom in and discover it was a kingfisher.
Been hoping to get a shot of one for years but didn’t expect to do it here.
Our departure after breakfast was rather exciting, being picked up by motorboat and skimming across the still quite choppy waves round to Loutro. The glamour was spoiled somewhat by the fact that the boat was full of black bin bags of rubbish and there was just about room for the driver, Pavlos our host and Tess and me clinging on to our suitcases for dear life!
The rest of our transfer to Chora Sfakion by ferry was more stately but we arrived safely and are now ensconced in a very smart hotel (the smartest we’ve stayed in in Greece) with a shower that you need a licence to operate. It has unlimited hot water too!
