Sir Nigel Gresley

WEDNESDAY

This morning, I drove over to the unpronounceable coastal village of Ffynnongroyw to catch a glimpse of the legendary steam loco 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley tearing down the North Wales mainline, en route from Holyhead to Cardiff.

The tide in the Dee Estuary was high with a gusty on shore wind causing the smoke and steam to swirl dramatically around the carriages.

60007 was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built in 1937 at Doncaster Works. It holds the post-war speed record for British Rail steam locomotives.

The rail buffs were out in full force, cameras in hand. Afterwards, before heading home, I stopped off at M&S in Prestatyn for a coffee and a quick shop at the Food Hall as last week I had been sent a free £12 voucher for Birthday cake.

The monthly quiz at the Salusbury Arms beckons us this evening
