The Wrought Iron Gates
The recent entry about Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse inspired me to show the gates which we have in our own house.
They are an addition and to place them here we formed the only new opening in the original building.
The gates were found literally abandoned at the roadside near a construction site. They were in a dreadful state covered in grey paint.
Needless to say, the abandoned gates suddenly had a value.
We carefully removed the paint and uncovered areas of gold leaf. Pat restored the Gates and painted them, also applying gold leaf.
They link the main vestibule with our ‘Great Hall’.
The Christmas Tree is used to celebrate various events throughout the year. It is artificial and was obtained from Costco some 25 years ago.
The tree was also abandoned by Costco after the 1999 Christmas season.
We are now of an age where we taking it up and down each Christmas is a great challenge. Better to leave it erected and use it as a Celebration Tree.
We took this ‘policy decision’ during Covid.
