Jan noticed her favourite Swedish lunch was on the menu at the Hotel Royal restaurant. The main clientele of this place seems to be people who work with their hands - builders, plumbers, carpenters, electricians - with a smattering of office workers and pensioners. The food is traditional Swedish, often just potatoes plus a piece of meat or fish, with sauce. The coffee is so strong we dilute it 50/50 with hot water and it still tastes excellent. The biscuits are home baked.
After lunch Jan visited the flea market, looking for cushions and finding other things too. In the blip she is looking at a very strange jigsaw puzzle of the nativity, as imagined by a surreal modern artist. The sheep were really quite frightening!
We moved on to Smitingen because Jan thought a small walk might be both possible and a good idea. It was, even if it was a lot shorter than she imagined. That Air Cast boot may hold everything in place but it also makes walking very difficult. It also collects a lot of sand when you are on a beach. We made it to a bench on the beach where we sat and chatted, and were then entertained by a young herring gull. It was after our sandwiches (which we didn't have) and landed behind us, sidled up closer and closer before walking around the bench and standing there right in front of our feet and looking straight us in short glances. If I'd had a sandwich I'd happily have shared it with this cheeky bird but it was out of luck.
Once home it was raking grass, sawing wood and digging over raised beds. I kept thinking I'd do one more small job and then quit, and then just one more job, and then...
So, a very varied day with lots going on and really lovely weather. I'll sleep well once more.
