A Triumphant day in Toledo

Another absorbing day, this time in Toledo, a hilltop city which was designated a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1986. It is known as The City of Three Cultures because of the cultural influences of Christians, Muslims and Jews throughout its long history. The Gothic cathedral is mind-boggling and I will post images of its effusive iconography as backblips later in the week. But today, I am featuring the processions that both greeted us and bid us farewell at opposite ends of our visit. The main image is of a statue of the Virgin Mary cradling the crucified Christ  that was being taken by hidden bearers through the old city followed by a band of musicians. Whether it is the same group following a different Virgin Mary that we came across on our way back to the station, shown in the extra, I don't know. Quite what was being celebrated, I don't know either. I don't think it was a Saint's day - perhaps it's a regular Sunday occurrence in Toledo. The other extras are a view of the city from the Mirador viewpoint and another, lower view as we walked from there to the city. Car buffs might get the reference in the title of today's blip.
