To Hasselt

Maastricht was preparing for the memorial afternoon: 80 years liberated. We cycled along the market and continued through the Boschstraat. I was feeling cheerfully excited about the long bike ride that we had started. The plan was to cross a small lake on a sunken cycle path in the Bokrijk estate and to eat a waffle on a terrace in Hasselt.

We followed the Albert Canal for a large part. Belgium seems to be very progressive in cycle highways and continuous car-free cycle routes. Main routes are numbered and the road to Hasselt is F72. In Hasselt you could change to route F5 to Antwerp. Just to give an idea ;-).

We drove past a site of trenches from World War II and spent some time on the bench.
Further on we rode through the wooded domain Bokrijk to the sunken cycle path. It was busy and I actually find the path too short.
We ordered chocolate milk with the waffle with chocolate and whipped cream surcharge. All in all way too much sugar, but delicious.

We rode back home via another route. This was also partly a cycle route with an F number.
