Off camping for a few days!
Monday
It was a hectic morning, as I was trying to prepare for Book Club, which I was hosting this afternoon, as well as getting ready for a few days away in the camper, leaving this evening! We had picked up the camper yesterday afternoon from its storage facility, and I had started putting things in, but hadn’t finished. We had a good turn out for Book Club - 10 of us, so just two missing. Virtually all of us enjoyed the book, The House of Doors, by Malaysian author Tan Twan Eng, and thought it was beautifully written. Nancy H, who has organized the Book Club for many years, and is in her mid 80’s I believe, announced at the beginning of the meeting, that she would be handing over the reigns to Jamie, one of our newer, and younger members. It was Nancy who introduced her to the Book Club, having known her previously through Montgomery Womens Club, and I think she will be a good choice.
Once Book Club was over, and the ladies had left, R and I loaded up the bikes and kayaks and a few other last minute items, and we were off by about 6pm. We weren’t going far - just up to Caesar Creek State Park - about 35 minutes drive. Our friend Phil, one of Roger’s former colleagues, and fellow Brit, has a sail boat which he keeps up there during Spring through Fall, and he and his wife Suzanne are staying up there for almost two weeks with their camper, and invite his many friends to go up and join them for the day, or longer if they have their own tent or camper. We are staying until Friday morning, as Roger has an appointment to be back for late morning on Friday. The pitches are big and spacious, and we have full hook up which is great. I was surprised how many people there were up there during the week, now the schools are back. Having got set up, we walked over to their pitch, on a different loop, but still close. Suzanne was there with a couple of ladies, but Phil had been out for a sail with the guys, and they were on their way back. One of the visiting couples had brought up food for everyone, which was great. It had been a lovely warm sunny day, but is really chilling down overnight.
