Urban Village

I live on a large housing estate a few miles away from the town centre. It's like one of those large developments being built today gobbling up land and euphemistically named a "village", although this one dates from the 1970s.

It was built on an old nursery, and crossing the top end is this avenue of Wellingtonia trees lying between the MOD ranges and the "Village Green", a recreation ground with football pitches, outdoor gym and children's playground.  The trees are over 150 years old; still very young for the species which includes the world's largest living single-stemmed tree, the General Sherman in California with an estimated age of 2,300–2,700 years.
