Wide Wednesday: Old School

For today’s challenge, I realised I’ve not blipped this building which stands on a road leading off the High Street.

As the plaque shows it was the former village secondary school, built 100 years ago next year, at the expense of the Clark family to celebrate their centenary in the shoe business.

By the time we moved down here, 45 years ago, a new Comprehensive school had been built, where I had come to teach English, and the old building here housed Council offices where Tess got a job and worked until Chris was born.

The other plaque, honouring local men who lost their lives in WWII, contains surnames that certainly appeared on the registers I took, the grandfathers or great uncles of students I taught presumably.

We spent most of the day packing and tidying the garden in preparation for setting off on holiday tomorrow. What with visitors at the weekend and being out the last 2 nights I’ve been all behind again with posting and commenting. Hopefully, I’ll have more time to catch up in the next few days as we’re planning a fairly lazy and relaxing time.
