Decaying Lilies

Many of you will know that my favourite flowers are lilies, particularly stargazers. Normally, summer sees the house full of flowers from the garden,  it this year the floral harvest has been depleted somehow, so I’ve wanted to leave the flowers where they are, and I’ve continued to treat myself to bunches of these beauties.

Somehow, they don’t seem to last so long in summer, blossoms decaying from pink to shrivelled brown almost overnight, drooping and dropping their pollen - I rarely remove the stamens.

Decaying lilies can never compete with tulips, but they’re have a beauty of their own, and it’s an opportunity for me to use my macro lens and have a go at focus stacking.
