Ballylongford day 2

Between a lot of talk, all mostly about holy wells, we managed to visit seven, starting off bright an early with a visit by the owner’s sister and her husband for I believed the land contained a holy well and they came to help us find it.  They arrived armed  with pikes and strimmers and secateurs! B,who  had last visited when she was a child nearly 40 years ago, thought she could remember where it was. The area was dense with brambles, impenetrable I thought but R got to work. About 10 minutes later he hit a slab, it sounded hollow and after more cutting and scrapping, and nearly falling in, it was uncovered, a well was revealed! Very deep, beautifully made and full of water.

After coffee and croissants we continue , hurtling around the wilds of Kerry in C’s big hire car, marvelling at the many sights. Great to have a catch up with her. She has been to 1400 wells and we managed to find four she hadn’t visited before, including the one in my main pic - result
