Welcome

As in previous years, I have attended one of the welcome ceremonies for new students in the McEwan Hall that always take place on the Monday of Welcome Week. As it's not as solemn as a graduation ceremony, I sometimes manage a sneaky picture (see extra on this blip) during these ceremonies, and I did so today. The woman you can see in profile, with blond hair and a red gown is Megan Keith, who endured a tough time at the Olympics, some might remember. As a high level international athlete, who won a bronze medal at the European championships earlier this year, Megan was winning one of this year's Sir William Darling Memorial Prizes as a student (possibly now ex-student, I'm not sure) who enhances the reputation of the university through their actions. Megan is also from the Highlands and often features in news features and Facebook posts out of Inverness, so she crosses my radar quite regularly.

Other than gaining a free lunch in the basement, an opportunity to meet a new Head of School who was in her first day in the job, some chat about this and that, and a wee sit down in the McEwan Hall, I also got my blip.

As usual with the first day of Welcome Week, the rest of the day passed in a blur with lots of meetings and greetings. In particular, I stopped off for a meeting with CB on the way to work, to talk through possible plans.
