Rolvenden signal box
With great relief and quiet satisfaction I was passed out as competent to work Rolvenden signal box this afternoon. The selfie shows something of the complexity of the frame and all the instruments and indicators on the block shelf.
At around 2.30pm after over 5 and a half hours of observation of me working the box and diligent questioning between trains the inspector said that he was confident I could work the box and that he was passing me out. It is the culmination of 18 months of practice and learning under the freely given guidance and advice of several signalmen over that time. I owe them a debt of gratitude.
We shared a celebratory Maid of Honour cake and he left me to complete the shift on my own. All went well even down to the last two light engine movements which I had to do differently to anything before.
Thank you for all your good wishes yesterday. I expect to be able to get back to journals tomorrow. A celebratory drink was enjoyed this evening. And to thank people for hearts and congratulation those who’ve hit milestones recently.
The extra is of two of the three engines in service today being prepped.
