Pontiff 150...
A curious days cricket at the Oval today. England somehow contrived to lose their remaining seven wickets in the morning session, for the addition of only a further 104 runs. Sri Lanka then came out with all guns blazing in the afternoon only to slip to 90 for five, before a worryingly solid partnership, worth 108 so far, took them to 211 for five when play was suspended due to bad light.
The main shot is of stand-in skipper Ollie Pope on way to completing an excellent 150, the only other batsman to pass 20 was Ben Duckett with 86 on the first day.
The first extra is of 20 year old bowler Josh Hull who is making his debut in this match. At six foot eight he would seem to have many of the attributes needed to succeed, and indeed took his first wicket thanks to a brilliant catch by Chris Woakes. On the down side he missed an absolute sitter of a catch which would have left Sri Lanka struggling at 150 for 6.
Extra number two is of Harry Brook engaged in ball polishing duties which have left a nice red stain on the sleeve of his white shirt - I bet he doesn't have to do his own laundry!
