Passion flower/passiflora incarnata
This striking flower and its orange fruit was growing on the wall of the manor house by the church. I had been filling up the water containers at the tap for flower arranging for the upcoming concert of classic guitar music and Sunday service. The flower was discovered in Peru in 1659 by the Jesuits and it was known as "La Flor de las Cinco Llagas" - the flower of the five wounds. Each part of the flower is also symbolic of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It has medicinal uses.
A really wet day, I got absolutely soaked trying to pick sunflowers from the field and even put the heating on for a couple of hours!! Really not on in September!
