What I've Done

A walk up to Jimmy's Hut

Today we took a walk from the hotel to the lovely Alpino Church (extra 1) - built in 2004. It was described as "easy" but it was 2 1/2 miles - all uphill, and in the thin air we were feeling a bit pooped by the time we got there. On the route though we did pass this lovely hut with the mountains behind and the stormy sky - so different from a year ago!

We then continued to climb until we reached Jimmy's (a famous eating hut). Just as we were approaching the rain came on hard. We dived inside and grabbed a table. I've eaten there before (outside) and enjoyed it, but today it felt that the staff just didn't want you there - very offhand, not friendly, like everywhere else has been. So we won't dash back.

The rain didn't ease off, so we made a 20 minute dash to the gondola lift back down. Not the only bad thing to happen either - my 24-200 lens, my main travel lens, started misbehaving, locking up, and "failing to initialise with the body" - I could get maybe two shots before it stopped, turned off the camera, took out the battery, put it back & turned it on, sometimes took half a dozen false starts before it worked again. VERY frustrating, so I was pretty well limited to my 14-30mm. Looks like a repair is needed.
