The Book of Mormon

I had the absolute delight of attending a performance of The Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Soho, as part of a Royal Society hospitality event.

In his review of show in 2011, Peter Travers, longtime movie critic and blurb king for Rolling Stone magazine, memorably wrote, "They had me at 'Hello'."

It's a cheeky reference to the show's opening number, where Mormon missionaries in starched white shirts, skinny black ties and Pepsodent smiles clutch their precious tomes and launch into the grinning hard-sell: "Hello, my name is Elder Price . . . you simply won't believe how much this book can change your life!"

Written by South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Avenue Q's Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon is pee-in-pants funny, outrageous, shocking, which you'd expect. If you haven't seen it, do. But leave your sacred cows at the theatre's coatcheck.
