If you can't beat them...

Plume Thistle ( Cirsium atropurpurea )

I intended to do some more "hay making" this morning i.e. rake up the strimmed grass from the "wild flower meadow" at the Lodge.  When I arrived it was pouring down, so inside and start replacing the lights in the bathroom.  I got engrossed in this and didn't even notice it had stopped raining.  By lunch time two were in place and working.

This afternoon was a garden centre coffee and cake day with Kanyl.  This blip has got me wondering!  I gather this is also known as Plume thistle but I have always known it as Cirsium atropurpurea.  However the posh printed plastic label at the garden centre calls it C atropurea.  I am sticking with the one I know as "google" doesn't seem to have heard of C atropurea.  If as I suspect the firm that grew the plant don't know its correct name I can't be surprised that they don't tell us whether plants are annual perennial etc or even hardy, half hardy or tender.
