Festival Arch
We landed in Singapore about 4.15pm local time. It felt very warm and humid outdoors but most most buildings seem to be air conditioned which makes them more comfortable. Our hotel is very close to Istana Park, which is situated opposite the Istana, the presidential palace. We walked through the park to the Plaza Singapura which is a vast mall full of smart shops and restaurants, to have a meal. When we walked back to the hotel we passed the park's centrepiece, this striking Festival Arch, a stainless steel structure, reflected in a shallow pool of water. It was designed by Ren Matsui. Everywhere we have been in Singapore is immaculately clean and tidy, with no litter in evidence, despite the popularity of takeaway food.
