Tongland Bridge

Today's the day ......................... to pour down

We had scary rain today - and by that I mean that the rain was SO heavy for SO long, I thought that it was inevitable that it would come flooding inside the house at some point.  Thankfully, it didn't! - and it did stop eventually in the late afternoon, at which point we really had to go out for a walk in the fresh air.

We went down to have a close look at the Telford Bridge over the River Dee.  With all the work that they have been doing recently on the bridge, it is now possible to walk down the new path and get much nearer than you could before.  The above is Will walking through one of the side arches that were designed to take the pressure off the main span at high tide when the river was running high.

Fortunately, the tide was low - but as you can see in the extra, the river was running fast and furiously.  The bridge has stood the test of time for well over 200 years.  Long may it continue to do so ........................
