After two weeks’ hearing aid abstinence, I was looking forward to being shown how to insert the ear moulds properly so that I don’t give myself sores in my ears again. I walked to my audiologist in South Woodford this morning and spent half an hour being shown what to do, once she had ascertained that the sore places had fully healed.

When they were properly inserted, everything suddenly sounded incredibly loud and, when I put on my waterproof jacket, it crackled and rustled quite alarmingly. I walked back home to Smithers, stopping only to take this shot of the obelisk and the Churchill statue on the Green on the way.

Sadly, my ears started really hurting again after lunch and I had to take the aids out. These silicone moulds are supposed to be the most comfortable ones you can get, having replaced the previous hard plastic ones. I’m really frustrated, because nothing seems to work for me. I will wear them for a short period each day, extending it a bit more each time, and hopefully my ears will acclimatise to these foreign objects and stop complaining. If not, I don’t know where we go from here …
