What's in a memory?
Dinner party tonight at the Haggerston High Rise.
I haven't seen Karl since before lockdown, so it was good to catch up with his projects and explorations of the world.
We discussed AI, naturally and he described making a deep fake 'memory' of a dead woman, so her mother could say goodbye. The 'memories' would be created by constructing a 3D simulacrum of the individual from photo's in their iPhoto library.
There are so many things wrong with this in my view. You have to consider why these photos were taken, when and by whom? Also what were the curation factors. What about consent?
I find it all deeply unpleasant!
Otherwise a lovely evening with great food and company.
Good memories are moments like these!
