Royal Crescent, Bath
“Always do what you are afraid to do.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Wash and brush up first thing to take K1 over to Bath for birthday lunch at the Royal Crescent Hotel. Arrived at Bath in plenty of time to find plenty of parking in the Royal Victoria Park, although struggled – and failed – to get the QR Code to work. Fortunately I had some cash on me (no card option available). Leisurely stroll down through the park, it really is beautiful and there were plenty of family groups dotted around enjoying the sunshine. Named in honour of the eleven-year-old princess in 1830, it had a very nostalgic effect on me – a sort of cross between Mary Poppins (flying a kite) and (at the Royal Crescent) Oliver (Who Will Buy), even though neither of them was filmed anywhere near here. The power of imagery in films, evoking all sorts of emotions and feelings. As we approached the Crescent from below the sky was just gorgeous, so we took our time (and I got my shots) and enjoyed the sunshine before disappearing into the hotel garden for lunch. Relaxing couple of hours over good food, soaking up the atmosphere which was very much out of time, before a leisurely stroll uphill through the park to find the car. Something of a surprise to find ourselves back there so easily as the walk back was so different to the walk down. Over the years my dreams have been peppered with not being able to find my car after leaving it in some strange car park, so it was a bit of a surprise to be able to head straight back to it across the open parkland instead of following our earlier route exactly. Even the M4 traffic on the way home dissolved into insignificance.
