Silver Comet
We drove the roughly two hours to the Buffalo, New York, area last night and got up this morning to attend part 2 of the coaster event. Today's park was Niagara Amusement Park (formerly Martin's Fantasy Island) at Grand Island, an island on the Niagara River.
Silver Comet is the only operating coaster there for now. We got exclusive ride time in the morning, and I rode it around 20 times. It's fun.
This park has been troubled lately. It closed in 2020 after a few years of decline, was bought in 2021 and reopened in 2022. Most of the rides had been removed and the midways torn up, so it's kind of a hodgepodge of rides and strange pavements, but at least it's open.
Several rides are in pieces in the parking lot and in the park behind fences. In extras is a photo of me sitting on the track of a disassembled coaster from Mexico. We hope the park can open it.
There also are rides in the park that are in place but not fully assembled. We noticed a Frisbee and a Caterpillar. If that Caterpillar is ever running, we're heading back because those are incredibly rare rides.
Also in extras is the view of Niagara Falls from the Ferris Wheel. You can't see the falls since they're so low, but you can see the mist climbing high. We did not visit the falls. We had to get home, and I didn't have my passport. We did stop by Anchor Bar, which purports to have invented the Buffalo wing, and bought some wings and merch. I bought a 5-pack of sauces.
Laurie, we didn't see exit 75 -- they appear to have been renumbered -- but I did wave and shout when we saw the exit for Fredonia.
