Obscuridade

Obscurity.

I like an obscure town but Lichinga takes it to the limit when I have to stay here for any length of time. The Catholic church in the centre is one of the aesthetically pleasing highlights.

A day of the standard daily rollercoaster of frustrations offset by small wins. Banking issues with a withdrawal limit of 5,000 meticais (around 80 dollars), which isn’t enough to pay for surprisingly expensive accommodation in the trap of an under-supply exploited by rapacious landlords.

On the plus side, not that my landlady in Dar es Salaam is not not rapacious, but she’s efficient with it. She messaged to say she’d spotted some broken tiles and wanted to repair them the next day. Absolute 10/10 for landlord proactivity. A landlady like this is worth sticking to like glue.

On the ambivalent or neutral side, I bought some cookies with a pink filling that tasted like Calpol. Not unpleasant.
