MM theme is Energy. This is our “Zappi” device.
We have solar panels on the roof, which this gadget tells us is generating 2.3 Kilowats of power. (  It’s quite dull at the moment ) . The car is on the drive  but is not plugged in ( the cable is hanging loose on the right ). We have storage batteries in the house and the arrows show that the energy is going into the house, into the storage batteries. When they are charged the energy will go  out to the grid and  an arrow will appear pointing to the little pylon diagram  on the right. However, we don’t really get paid much for that  so it is better if we go and plug in one of our cars to recharge from the solar energy. When all those things are charged then it can go to the grid. 
However if I were to go and switch the kettle on now or turn the oven on the power would go to that instead. It is all set up to do this automatically. Although as you might imagine , LooseCanon has a nifty App which he can look at from anywhere and it will tell us what is going on!
Our son recently had a similar set up installed but their Zappi is not working quite as it should. When he brought his car here it charged up perfectly, so that shows that it is his Zappi which is not working properly rather than his new electric car., just teething problems I’m sure.
Inside the house we have another gadget called Eddi. He controls the hot water. He uses the energy to heat up our hot water cylinder. Again it’s all controlled by some great brain in the sky. 
Eddi and Zappi between them keep us all charged up. 
If there is not enough solar energy we can buy it in from the grid . It is cheaper over night so at that point it is set to top up our house batteries if necessary.
