Icelandic eruption
We had an easy start to the day as our flight wasn’t till after lunch. We had to get our waterproof trousers on to walk the 5 minutes to Glasgow airport as the rain was heavy.
Icelandair was very efficient. We left on time and as most of the passengers were going on to North America (it’s a cheap, quick route which we have used to Minneapolis and Denver) we were the only people at the non EU passport control. We got the bus and at the depot transferred to a minibus which did the hotel drop-offs.
On the way we saw the steam from the latest eruption - the fissure was miles long. We thought we’d not see the red fountain of lava in daytime but we did. Those poor people who have had to leave their homes.
Our (basic) hotel is by the docks. A ship is moored a few yards away, towering over our window. It looks like it wants to come in to join us.
We were last in Reykjavik in 2022 when we explored the island and loved it. This time we are staying only overnight. It’s sunny but cool. We’ll go for a walk after being cooped up all day.
This will be my last blip for over 2 weeks and there’s no WiFi from tomorrow.
