Fields of Gold

The fields of barley in Orkney are ripening nicely and add golden highlights to the landscape. I took this blip from Howe Road at the NE end of Stromness.

I was in danger of taking root after my swim this morning but finally made myself go for a stroll when I saw that it might rain at lunch time. It didn’t then but now that I’m back and had some late lunch the first raindrops are being blown against the window. The yachts that were tacking back and forth on their Sunday outing in Hamnavoe are scurrying for shelter as the day suddenly turns wet.

I had a phone conversation with Yorkshire Daughter who is staying in the Dower house with her partner at the moment so that they can go to some events  in the Festival. They are going out for a meal tonight with daughter#1.

It feels strange not to be celebrating HL’s earthly birthday today. I really appreciated our London friends remembering the day but made me laugh by saying how much he would have hated being 91.
