Lavenham

Lavenham is said to be one of the most important and best preserved Medieval villages in England. We find it hard to disagree with this claim after a wonderful day there.

We started with a visit to the village's Guildhall, maintained (extremely well) by the National Trust. Then we joined a walking tour of the village with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. We learnt about the construction of timber frame houses, local industries, the fortunes of the village over the years, efforts to destroy/preserve its heritage, and some the village's famous residents and visitors. Amongst the village's inhabitants was John Constable. The house that I have blipped was once the school that Constable attended.

It's our last night in our lovely accommodation just north of Bury St Edmunds. We'll be sad to leave tomorrow to start our journey north back to Edinburgh. We will also be dressing more warmly...

Exercise today: tiny amount of walking (5621 steps).
