Stuff and Nonsense

Tiger Longwing

I'd not seen my friend from my photography club all summer as the numerous holidays we've had between us have always clashed. When he came into the butterfly house yesterday with his camera, we just spent ages chatting as it was very very busy. I suggested a private session this morning and he was well up for it.
When we arrived in the pouring rain, I felt like it was going to be a bit of a waste of time as most of the butterflies just sit on the netting quite high up when it's cold and dull. But eventually it cleared up a little and we might even have had a few minutes of sunshine :)
Many of last weeks pupae have emerged and are looking in pristine condition, with some new species for the year as well which were quite elusive. I'll have to try again on Saturday.
We've had lots of longwings this year and I think this one is a Tiger Longwing, Heliconius hecale, from Southern Mexico to Ecuador.  I liked it up on top of the Tithonia.
