Portsdown Hill

Today I went to cousin J in Portchester. We took her grandchildren to Fort Nelson on the top of Portsdown Hill. It is part of the Royal Armouries and houses lots of artillery from across the world. The children loved doing the assault course.
We had some lunch there and then drove further along the Hill to a viewpoint where you could see the whole expanse of Portsmouth and Langstone harbours.
At one side of the viewpoint was a wood with this notice. It gives details of the Falkland Islands Conflict in April 1982 and explains that 255 members of the British Taskforce, and three Falkland Islanders lost their lives during the Conflict.
In December 1982 a Plantation of 258 beech trees was dedicated in the wood - one to commemorate each of those 258 people who lost their lives. See extra.
