Orla's Summer Interview

Every August since 2013 when Orla was about to start school, we have done an interview to record what kind of things Orla has been into and what events have happened in the year. This year's interview is going to be split into smaller parts, beginning with a section on Friends & Interests.

[Bonus Interview: we did another interview that was a bit different to the usual format and included some silliness. Here's a link.]

Here is a summary of what Orla mentions in the Friends & Interests interview:

1. Friends
   - Orla spent a lot of time with her friends this year, particularly with Hannah, Amber, and Phoebe. Highlights included seeing a "Snow White" pantomime in Glasgow, making cookies (including a funny octopus-shaped one), and having a fun-filled birthday party with karaoke. She also enjoyed carving pumpkins and spending time in Glasgow with other friends, visiting shops and just hanging out.

2. Main Interests
   - Horror Fiction Podcasts: Orla got really into horror fiction podcasts like ‘The Magnus Archives’, ‘Welcome to Night Vale’, and ‘Malevolent’.
   - Musicals: Around Christmas, she was really into musicals, particularly the ‘Hatchetfield Trilogy’.
   - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: She developed a strong interest in ‘Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy’.
   - Minecraft Life Series: Orla enjoyed watching the Minecraft Life Series featuring Grian.
   - Sandersides: Sandersides became a major obsession for Orla starting in February and has remained a favourite.
   - Ace Attorney: In August, she rediscovered ‘Ace Attorney’ and has been having a lot of fun watching playthroughs of the games.

3. Sewing
   - Orla started learning how to sew this year. Although she doesn’t have a sewing machine yet, she’s become proficient at hand sewing and has fixed quite a few socks.

4. Movies
   - Orla watched several new releases and older films this year. She saw ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ and ‘Inside Out 2’ in the cinema, as well as ‘Wonka’ and ‘Dune: Part Two’. She also watched some classics for the first time, including ‘Die Hard’, ‘The Shawshank Redemption’, ‘Chariots of Fire’, ‘Life of Brian’, and ‘Jojo Rabbit’.

5. TV Shows
   - Orla watched a variety of TV shows, from ‘Good Omens Season 2’ and ‘Loki Season 2’, which made her cry, to rewatching ‘Steven Universe’. She also started a Friday night tradition of watching shows like ‘Renegade Now’, ‘Dick Turpin’, ‘Red Dwarf’, and ‘Columbo’. Additionally, she enjoyed reality TV like ‘Bake Off’, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, and ‘The Traitors’, and she loved the new ‘Doctor Who’ series with the introduction of Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor.

6. Theatre Visits
   - Orla saw several plays and musicals this year, including ‘The Ocean at the End of the Lane’, ‘Macbeth’, ‘The Addams Family Musical’, ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, and ‘Oliver’ at the Leeds Playhouse. She also attended a stage adaptation of ‘Paranormal Activity’, which she found both cool and terrifying.

7. Books
   - Orla read a few notable books this year, including ‘The Book of Dust’ (which she picked up because of its cool cover), ‘Coraline’ (around Halloween), and ‘Hogfather’ by Terry Pratchett. She also read ‘The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy’ and listened to all of the radio shows. Although she started reading ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘Neverwhere’, she hasn’t finished them yet.
