Summers End?
The first of the colchicums are appearing. In the garden Colchicum montanum and here, in a pot, Colchicum alpinum. I've grown seed raised bulbs for many years now but this is the first time I have had more than two flowers. Hopefully I will soon have enough bulbs to try it in the garden although as colchicum are slow from seed, it may be some years yet! This one is little bigger than a crocus. I saw it in flower in the meadows just above Saas Fee back in August 2010, myriad tiny pink goblets dotted through the grass.
A morning walk with C and the Megs, the last for a while as they go home on Tuesday and I am working all day tomorrow. As I ate lunch a message from work offered me a later start than the planned 2pm. Unfortunately it was too late for me to join the Tuesday singers at Aberdovey Food Festival where the set went very well indeed from all I hear. With three more singing events this month, my turn will come. I did get some more done towards sorting the bulb collection this afternoon which was a little compensation.
Work at Aber Cafe tonight, a busy evening with a train and buffet booked for a birthday party plus the summer sunset special as well. Fortunately I didn't have to prepare the buffet but keeping up with their needs and clearing up afterwards kept us on the go until 9pm. A very busy work week ahead so an early night is a definite.
