dyes

Today, D and I attended a plant dyes workshop at the Cample Gallery, near Thornhill. It was facilitated by Laura Spring, from the Sculpture House in Paisley. We used four different plants from the gallery's garden and dyed small pieces of cotton tape and silk. Then we modified the dyes by adding a 2% solution of Iron Sulphate, which apparently "saddens" the colour. You can see the results above on the sample sheet we made.

Jess came along to the workshop and sat quietly outside, making friends with gallery staff and visitors. At lunchtime, she had a play in the burn :-)

I asked D to let me out of the car at Irongray Church and walked the rest of the way. Passed my friend Marian who was kneeling in her driveway, pruning a Potentilla bush. She was wearing a leopard print top and hoop earrings - possibly the most glamorous gardener I know (and one of the most glamorous people I know). She showed me round her beautiful garden.

I ate a lot of blackberries on my way home.
