Going, then not going to Cornwall
Another day, another call for Ottawacker Jr. to go and do something out of the house. He certainly took his time, but boring him senseless for much of the holiday has finally borne fruit. Wyatt called this morning and came over – and then he and Ottawacker Jr. packed a snack and decided to catch a bus up to Place d’Orléans. This is a shopping mall, so I am not sure what the attraction is: hopefully it is just a bus ride and not an excuse to eat shite in Tim Hortons.
At around the same time, he got a call up for the U13s team playing tonight in Cornwall. He’s been asked to play out in defence, so we will see what that leads to. Not sure I fancy a rush-hour drive to Cornwall on a Friday night… Anyway, we accepted and now there is nothing to be done.
Spent the early part of the morning doing a final revision of the Firmino book review I wrote yesterday. Made myself a little less definite about things, or at least a little less suable. I just checked the spelling of “suable” and found the following little mistake in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary:
Examples of suable in a Sentence
Recent Examples on the Web
Blue Origin itself will provide modules, launching them using its now-on-development re-suable heavy-lift New Glenn rocket.—Jamie Carter, Forbes, 26 Oct. 2021
When even dictionaries are incapable of spellchecking or of knowing the difference between “suable” and “usable”, then we are truly screwed.
Started feeling a little “off” as the day wore on – it didn’t worsen, but by the time it came to drive Ottawacker Jr. to his game in Cornwall, I didn’t feel up to it. So, Mrs. Ottawacker stepped into the breach. Having already said I didn’t feel like I wanted to do it, it seemed like a feeble excuse… but she didn’t make me feel bad. I dozed and wrote for a while, waiting for their 9.30pm return. A resounding 7-1 defeat. They moved Ottawacker Jr. into goal at 5-0 down and he apparently played well: different game with 11-a-side and full nets. Be interesting to see what happens next. He’s been called up again for Sunday’s game.
