In Cave
My sister had mentioned that she was taking her family for a wander around Rydal Caves this morning.
Pausing briefly to question her sanity at venturing into the Lakes on a Saturday during the school holidays, I decided to accept her invite - particularly as my nephew absolutely loves a ride in Big Blue (the van) - and we were all up early too.
It was a lovely walk and a nice opportunity to catch up with all the members of my immediate family - there's been a fair bit going on lately - whilst benefitting from some much needed blowing away of cobwebs.
My young nephew did great on his tiny two-and-a-bit year-old legs only crashing on the home stretch whereupon he was collected by his parents and allowed to slumber on their shoulders for the remainder of the walk.
The main cave itself was incredibly busy with tourists, but today rendered slightly enchanting by the presence of a musician who played some guitar and flute (not at the same time) which echoed around the cavern.
This was the view over Rydal looking North. I can’t believe we escaped with only a few spots of rain falling on us.
Lovely day!
