A Work in Progress

I swam at 10am this morning in glorious sunshine and with a high tide. There were about 6 of us plus a husband- I thought he was very brave, we don’t often get a man swimming with us.

I opted to have a coffee at home this morning which turned out to be a good decision when I walked down the Street later and found a very long queue outside Julia’s Cafè with the outside sitting area full. There were 2 tourist  buses parked at the harbour and with most of the shops closed on a Sunday it must have seemed a good idea for the visitors to sit in the sun for the allotted visit time. They weren’t from a cruise ship with an enormous breakfast under their belts but probably on a day trip from the Mainland and needing sustenance.

I had a leisurely stravaig about the town with a seat on a bench at one point to eat a Pastel del Nata. If I thought that it seemed slightly unreal to be eating a Portuguese pastry on a northern island so far removed from its origin I just marvelled at how the world has shrunk during my lifetime. I spent time watching men at the harbour loading crates of velvet crabs destined for Spain onto a lorry. A sharp eyed herring gull spotted a live one on the floor of the building and swooped off with it. I watched as it killed it and ate it. That was his lunch sorted.

On the way home I poked my nose down narrow lanes which I think are public but you can never be entirely sure and found today’ s blip. Looks like work in progress. With the blip in the can I sat in the garden and finished reading one of my library books- 2 down and 3 still to go before they are due back.
