Dovedale Stepping Stones

My third visit to the stepping stones since October 2023 when Storm Babet resulted in the toppling of several stepping stones at this famous location. The crossing has been closed since then and has only re-opened this week, when contractors were able to reset the toppled stones.  According to the news release by Derbyshire County Council they were due to take two weeks, starting at 5 am before the visitors arrived and stopping once the area got busy.  I can only assume they progressed quicker than expected as all the work had finished and the stones were open to cross.

We headed past the stones and along to Milldale before returning.  A six mile walk in lovely conditions. This was a birthday treat for me and despite my achilles again starting to ache as we progressed, it was well worth the effort.  We also had a lovely ice cream from Poppy Cottage at Milldale.

On driving back we stopped for a celebratory meal and only finally arrived home just before 9 pm.  The evenings are drawing in and it was already fairly dark as we pulled up.
