Changing Leaves
In this case they are poison oak leaves. We got off on our walk to Spike's meadow quite early this morning and I was struck by the fact that the leaves are all red now and some are beginning to fall. On our way home I noticed that the Chinese Pistache trees are beginning to show some clusters of read leaves. These trees always turn the most beautiful shades ranging from gold to red. There are quite a lot of them around town and they make quite a show in the autumn.Mid-August seems early for autumn but I read somewhere that it isn't the colder temperatures that cause the foliage to change color, it is the decrease in the amount of light in a day.
It also seems too early for school to be back in session, but most schools held their first day of classes yesterday. I asked Peter how he dealt with cell phones in his classroom and he said about all he could do was strongly encourage his students not to bring them out during class. I said I thought there should be a district wide policy banning their use in class, but he said he thought it was illegal to do so. It will be interesting to see how this story develops. I used to read a book under my desk during math class and was convinced nobody saw me, but now I realize the teacher was probably perfectly aware of it, but figured it wasn't his was my responsibility.
With my new sewing machine working almost soundlessly and oh so smoothly, I was looking forward to sewing my prototype together today, and I did work on it most of the day, but wound up trying to redo several of my templates so that the full quilt will go more smoothly. My geometry was put to the test, particularly with triangles. I have two different kinds of triangles and sewing them together to make 4 inch squares is challenging my skills. It probably would have behooved me to put away Wuthering Heights during math class....
It's probably proof that ocular migraines are caused by a combination of stress and bright light, since I finally had to put it away because I had one....
