Here Sits the Energizer Bunny

Oh sleep, why have you abandoned me? Up at 3:00 and have not been back to sleep. I enjoyed a lovely time on my front porch after sunrise. One disturbing news article was about the recent spike in COVID cases. Our mother called my sister last evening and described her aches and pains - all sounded like COVID. My sister called me and asked me to test her for COVID today. So during breakfast, I called to check on our mother. She sounded fine and looked forward to our visit. I packed up a lunch surprise for her: ziti, watermelon chunks and lemon pound cake. I gathered all my medical supplies needed to check her vitals and headed south after breakfast. We stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few items she needed plus a breakfast Danish treat. Her test was negative but we hung around to observe her symptoms. After her lunch, I set her up to pick out the crabs my sister took her for her freezer. And I cleaned her house, some of it anyway. She asked hubby to help her order checks; she’s been out for months. He also researched her eligibility for a senior real estate discount. Her taxes have almost doubled in the last couple years. A good pension is a blessing. She worked hard to earn it. And when we left her home, she was working hard to get crab meat for her freezer. I doubt there are many 95 year olds picking 20 crabs for their freezer today. Both of my parents taught us a great work ethic. Personally, I wish they’d been a little more laid back. I still feel guilty when I take a break. My sister hasn’t figured out how to yet. They caught, cooked and cleaned those crabs for our mother. Speaking of sisters, the other one who lives nearby had some type of heart surgery yesterday in DC. I spoke with her at the hospital today. She sounded good but wasn’t forthcoming on surgery info. We are picking up meds at the moment. Then we will grab a very late lunch and shop for groceries and our parish food for the hungry drive. I hope the evening is quiet. I need some sleep! Wishing you an enjoyable Wednesday. Stay safe. Thanks for visiting. “Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws.” — Barbara Kingsolver
