Amisfield Walled Garden

I met up with my friend Eric this morning and we visited a couple of gardens near Haddington. Amisfield Walled Garden dates from the late eighteenth century and it has been restored largely by voluntary efforts in recent years. It is a massive site with extensive herbaceous borders and we found many plant species that we had  not come across previously and spent time identifying them on PlantNet. There were some absolutely massive thistles called Cardoon. (see extras)

The other garden we visited was the Haddington Garden Trust which is hidden away behind St. Mary's church. It has a sunken formal garden ,a marvellous laburnum arched avenue, an old orchard and raised herb beds (see extra0
