Summery

Had a terrible night’s sleep, only the second since I’ve been taking magnesium supplements (which are working well! ) so I got up feeling quite broken.  And then went off to Pilates which I did slowly but which made me feel better.  We didn’t have much on so feeling fragile didn’t matter too much, although I think I didn’t sleep because I was anxious about restarting Pilates!

The vintage brocante market was going on in the square in Midhurst but I homed in on a market garden stall and bought fresh green beans and tomatoes and a bunch of garden flowers.  Feeling inspired I made a Salade Niçoise from Patricia Lousada’s Cooking of Provence, one of the legendary Sainsbury’s cook books from the 1990s.  It’s the book that taught me to make brandade, to roast Mediterranean vegetables and this salade is worth having all the ingredients, doing all the steps and taking all the care over.   It was absolutely delicious.

I then fell asleep, something I rarely do in the day time but it was in the garden on a rug so I felt somehow it had just the right amount of insouciance to be justified.

Woke finally refreshed and sat on the bench and read the paper.  The view is the blip. I then did some weeding and watering.  In the evening V cooked dinner and I made an apricot and raspberry almond cake for tomorrow.

Watched Wicked Little Letters which despite lovely performances was rather irritating.  We gave up although that was partly because the internet was playing up which makes smart TVs dumb.
