River Tweed

A 2nd Saturday Stroll; actually a respectably long walk, starting with a good pull up on to and along the Southern Upland Way.

Train from Waverley with most of the walkers, to Galasheils. Route 7 on this path map is what we followed (with the occasional hesitation and excursion; some of the way markers aren't obvious) past Abbotsford .. then on to Tweedbank to catch the train back. A wonderful day of sunshine and a strong West wind.

The start of the walk in the Galasheils policies had some splendid redwoods; @lovenature bipped a big oak further on.
First extra with bell heather in flower and some of the walking group at the cairn Second extra is the view down from there .. the grass heads blowing sideways.  We sat by the Tweed bank, well maintained for fishing, to eat lunch, where it was sheltered and warm. Not far below this, the Ettrick joins the Tweed and it becomes a much bigger river.

In Tweedbank, there was just time for me to catch the 15.19 train; most of the group went on to the brewery. The train was busy with people dressed for a Saturday evening on the town. The station was even busier; passageways and stairs full in both directions.

A grand walk, as well as my first trip on the Borders Railway (opened 2015, when @AndrewDBurns was on the inaugural journey. )
