Von Echstedska manor
Today we went to the von Echstedska manor, a seventeenth-century manor, now a museum. All the walls except the servants' are beautifully painted.
Extras: We went on a guided tour. I think the most fun thing to see is the kitchen. We did that, yes, we got to see the whole house.
We were taught that the guest rooms were furnished by the guests. They came from far away and brought even their own furniture, so that the time spent as guests would suit them. The guide told that the trip from Stockholm to the mansion took two weeks! And the guests stayed for a long time, several weeks or months. This room is furnished as if it were a family visiting. The rocking horse is not a toy, but a training object for learning to ride a real horse.
But it is not the kitchen or the guest rooms that draw people here today, nor the fine salon, because it is something completely different. It is the loo!
The loo is located in a nice outbuilding next to the main building. Going to the loo was a joint task, the whole family or the host family and guests could go at the same time. There is room for five adults and two children at the same time. And what all wants to see is the painting on the ceiling in front of the holes. There the fine gentleman and his wife are depicted sitting on the loo. He has his pants slightly pulled down and the nice wife wipes her butt with a silk cloth. On the sides you can see the servants coming with more silk rags to the butt.
See, another day when you had to learn a lot.
