Birthday Trip - Day 2
Up and out early, not a minute to waste. Breakfast was at the Salisbury Orangery on the banks of the River Kennet and very nice it was to. (Extra photo) We received some unwelcome news whilst travelling but having discussed it Sam and I decided as there was nothing we could do or contribute to set it aside until we arrived home.
At 10am we were parking at Old Sarum Fort, fascinating, Sam knew way more about it than me but I soon caught up.
The main picture is of the outline of the original Salisbury Cathedral taken from what is left of the old walls. We spent around three hours again in glorious sunshine exploring every inch of the castle and its surrounds.
Around lunchtime we set off on the longest leg of our drive, Glastonbury via Silbury Hill.
I was a little disappointed with Glastonbury, lots of the stereotype ‘hippies’, the obligatory Palestinian Peace Camp and some of the sites we wanted to look at had what appeared to be long stay camper vans two wheels up on the kerb.
What I was enthralled by was Glastonbury Abbey and Glastonbury Tor which will feature over the next couple of ‘Blips’.
