Bird and Cactus

This little House Finch is perched in one of my Ocotillo cacti. You know that the monsoons are here because this plant is normally bare and leafless. The temperatures are in the 100's F and this little guy is tolerating the heat well. When it gets really warm like today the birds will move their wings away from their bodies, just a fraction of an inch away allows the air to flow and cools them off a bit.
