Navvies
They were an integral part of what made Britain great, building railways that fuelled our wealth. They were also often migrants, social outcasts and lived in extreme deprivation, exploited. Tell that to the moron far right extremists.
Getting off my soapbox, today I'm celebrating the Talyllyn Navvies, a group where teenagers and their parents work together as volunteers on this railway. Today, after a hard days work, here they are setting off up the line together for a picnic tea. Sadly, the weather was about to play a nasty trick on them .... but they'll still have enjoyed their picnic even if they had to eat in the shelter of the carriages.
A very busy work day in the shop for me. The first day of the long summer school holidays which did not deliver 'beach weather, saw a lot of visitors travelling on the trains, the cafes were extra busy and a good number of them lingered in the shop too. I was lucky in getting home again just as the rain arrived. A quiet evening at home catching up on a few things.
A day off tomorrow and the sun is going to shine :-)
